Stadsbiblioteket

_MG_1139

"The Gothenburg Public Library/ Stadsbiblioteket is Gothenburgs most visited cultural instituation. The Library was built in 1967, but the Gothenburg library history is more than one hundred years old. The first library was founded in 1861 in a flat in the neighbourhood of Haga. Funded by James Dickson the library was primarily set up for the working class inhabitants of Haga.

Today the library is going though an expansion process which includes an extension to the building. As part of this process the vision of the library is being established. the library aims to become the obvious choice when seeking knowledge, insight and experience. The future library is an institution no longer exclusively dedicated to books but a place for information of all kinds. In an age where information can be accessed anywhere, it is the simultaneity of media and more important the curatorship of content that will make the library relevant and vital"

Brief:

Investigate and develop design solutions/interventions for the future library. This project puts emphasis on the user, and the user interaction with a product or a space.

Seeeee I told you the project got wayyy more exciting.

We spent a rather intense day being introduced to all the librarians and staff, having a tour and having our project introduction at the library, but unfortunately (and of course understandably) it was all in Swedish!
Some of my classmates translated as the staff were speaking which was very sweet, but also very funny! it was totally like this....

Ha!

I'll show you my work another time, we had midway presentations yesterday and despite the usual extreme nerves, it went well. I celebrated with pancakes and good company and a very long lie in this morning!
