Lets be honest here the closest I've been to Swedish cuisine probably came from Ikea, and don't get me wrong I really like the lingonberry and meatballs. I'm also pretty partial to the cloudberry jam. But I have wondered how authentic it really is? and sort of assumed not so much.
So on Wednesday this happened....
And it was pretty good. (The peas not so typically Swedish I guess)
I'm sort of seeing this as training, a gentle introduction. Once I arrive in Gothenburg I fully intend to hunt down the best meatballs the city has to offer!
I'm having a visitor probably around 4 or 5 weeks into my stay so that will hopefully be enough time to find a treat. I got a little tip off from a friend who grew up in Gothenburg so my first stop on the meatball quest will be Karlssons Garage on Linnegatan.
Also whilst I'm on the subject of food, I've got princess cake on my radar and maybe before I leave a visit to FIKA on Brick Lane, which if nothing else looks pretty good. i.e has just the right amount of wood paneling to appeal to my design sensibilities.
